“Light Touch” Massage Therapy

A relaxing massage using lighter pressures and sweeping strokes to boost circulation, remove toxins from the body and promote tissue healing.

Regular treatments can reduce stress and symptoms of fatigue. This gentle treatment can be tailored to your health and your symptoms.

Light touch massage is especially beneficial for those with osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, chronic pain or myofascial pain syndrome.

Oncology Massage Therapy

Traditional massage techniques adapted to safely treat those who are receiving treatment for cancer, in remission or living with cancer, including individuals receiving end of life care.

Massage can help to manage the side effects of cancer treatments such as dry skin and muscular tension, and it reduces the impact of physical and emotional scars on the body. Massage promotes relaxation and healing and can help with the management of fatigue.

Claire has received postgraduate training in oncology massage therapies. She can effectively adapt massage treatments to ensure they are safe and enjoyable for clients and she considers the cancer treatments you may be receiving (such as medications, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy) as well as for the disease when performing massage treatments. Claire performs a thorough consultation as part of your first appointment.

TMJD Massage Therapy

Specialist massage techniques adapted to relieve the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD). Massage can bring relief to TMJ sufferers, reducing pain and tension in the muscles of the jaw, neck and shoulders, and improving mouth opening when the soft tissues are involved.

Massage treatments are adapted to suit each clients’ symptoms and preferences. Treatments typically include facial and intra-oral massage, passive stretching, trigger point therapy and myofascial techniques for the face, neck and shoulders. Tips on posture, home exercise and pain relief are often given to ensure each treatment has lasting effects.

The focus on the face and jaw mean TMJD massage treatments can also benefit people with bruxism (teeth grinding) and jaw tension from stress or bad posture.

After suffering from TMJD herself and having to travel as far as London to gain treatment, Claire completed TMJ therapy training with Tracey Kiernan’s blend therapy school to become one of the first practitioners in Norfolk to offer this highly effective form of treatment to help manage TMJD.

About TMJD

TMJD is a little known and little understood condition that often goes overlooked as the cause of many common symptoms. The TMJ stands for Temporo-Mandibular Joint. This is the hinge joint that connects your lower jaw to your the skull and is not usually given much thought until it begins to cause pain or clicking, popping sounds are heard, indicating a problem with the TMJ and the muscles, ligaments and tissues surrounding it.

When the TMJ no longer functions as it should this is termed TMD (temporomandibular dysfunction) or TMJD. This can cause:

  • Facial pain
  • Limited mouth opening
  • Bruxism (teeth grinding)
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle spasms and tension.
  • Referred pain to the neck, shoulders and back
  • Hearing problems and tinnitus
  • Blurred vision

TMD is often treated by dentists, or oral surgeons who may suggest medications for pain refleif, or a device to limit teeth grinding. This focus on teeth and occlusion is important but often means the muscles and soft tissues surrounding the joint are overlooked, despite being the main source of pain. Complimentary therapies such as massage can make a big improvement to the symptoms of this condition by improving mouth opening, reducing pain and relieving muscular tension.
