Exercise & Wellbeing for those affected by cancer The feel good fitness project provides opportunities for people affected by cancer to improve their health and wellbeing through exercise. Classes are held at Hethersett Village Hall every Friday. Pilates and keep fit classes are available for 6 weeks or more to people living with or recovering from cancer, their carers, relatives and friends. Classes are limited to 10 people for extra advice and guidance, providing a supportive, welcoming atmosphere. Keep Fit Classes Keep fit classes involve exercises to improve your strength, mobility and cardiovascular fitness. Each session involves a warm up, a circuit of 10 exercises to complete at your own pace, followed by a cool down. Pilates Classes Pilates is a low impact form of exercise. It involves controlled, flowing movements to improve core strength, flexibility, posture & wellbeing. Classes involve standing, seated and floor based exercises. Times and Locations Classes will be held every Friday at the following times Keep Fit 130-2.15pm Pilates 2.30-3.15pm Classes will be held at Hethersett Village Hall Back Lane Hethersett Norfolk NR9 3JJ Parking and changing facilities are available Classes will run in 6 week blocks. From October 2017 the cost will be £30 for 6 classes and booking is required by calling or emailing: 07776044304 or firstname.lastname@example.org. You can attend one 6 week block of classes, in some cases longer if spaces exist and you can bring one friend or relative if you wish. Additional Information Before starting your first class please download the registration form at the bottom of this page, complete this and bring to your first class, or contact Claire on 07776044304 /email@example.com for a postal address to send it to. This form asks questions about your health. If you are living with or recovering from cancer and/or another medical condition please gain approval from a medical professional before starting a class, to ensure exercise is safe and beneficial for you. You can do this by getting a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist or occupational therapist to sign your registration form. Please contact us for more information if you would like guidance or further information on this, or if you encounter any difficulty in completing the form or getting it signed. If you are a medical professional looking to refer a patient you can also use the exercise referral form from the bottom of the page, completing this with or on behalf of your patient. Do i need to bring anything to the classess?
At your first class please bring your registration form to ensure the instructor is aware of any health issues you have and can ensure exercise will be safe for you.
Please bring a bottle of water each week. If you have your own Pilates mat please bring this to Pilates classes.
What do i need to wear?
For keep fit classes please wear light, breatheable clothes you can move easily in as you will get warmer during exercise. Trainers or comfortable footwear is advised to protect your feet.
For Pilates classes you will need to wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Please consider that you will not get overly warm in Pilates. We take shoes off for Pilates so footwear does not matter.
Is there parking available at the venue?
Yes plenty of parking is available outside the village hall.
Are there changing facilities available at the venue?
Male, female and disabled toilets are available to change in, no formal changing rooms are available
Can i bring a carer, relative or friend with me?
Yes all participants are able to bring one person with them if they feel they need extra support. Carers/friends/relatives will need to fill in a PAR-Q form to declare they are safe to exercise if they wish to participate in the class. If they have a known medical condition they will need to get permission from a medical professional to ensure they are safe to participate.
What happens if i cannot make a class?
If you know you cannot make a class please contact instructor Claire on 07776044304 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. We understand you may not be able to attend every week but please consider that in most cases there will not be an opportunity to make up for classes you have missed.
What happens if i feel unwell or become injured during a class?
If you feel unwell you will need to stop exercising and inform the instructor. Depending on the situation your next of kin may be called to collect you and/or take you to your GP. You may be given first aid treatment if required, instructor Claire is first aid qualified. An ambulance will be called if you feel extremely unwell.
